Officers from the Department for Combating Organized Crime have uncovered a new case of corruption involving the former head of the Sisian community in Syunik Province.
According to law enforcement, the former official violated provisions of Armenia’s Land Code by initiating a 2021 land auction that transferred around 4.6 hectares of communal pastureland to one of his close associates. The move was approved by the community council.
The land was sold for just 661,000 drams, even though its estimated market value was around 16 million drams. Authorities say the illegal transaction caused significant financial damage to the community’s legitimate interests.
The case materials have been forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Committee, which has launched criminal proceedings under charges of abuse of power or exceeding official authority by a public official.
