Pashinyan presents illuminated manuscript replica to U.S. museum

During his working visit to the United States, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the Bible Museum in Washington, where he presented a replica of medieval illuminated manuscript by Grigor Narekatsi.

Accompanied by Museum Executive Director Aaron Ross, Pashinyan toured the exhibition halls and viewed the displays. The collection includes examples of Armenian Christian culture, among them an ancient Armenian Bible. The prime minister said he was deeply impressed by the exhibition.

The manuscript is considered one of the oldest known copies of the “Book of Lamentations” prayer book. The original was created in 1173 in Cilicia by renowned scribe and miniaturist Grigor Skevratsi, commissioned by Nerses Lambronatsi. It is currently preserved at the Matenadaran and is regarded as a unique masterpiece of Armenian written and miniature art.

On August 8, U.S. President Donald Trump will host Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the White House. Separate meetings will be followed by a trilateral session.
