Armenia, Azerbaijan, U.S. sign ‘Trump route’ declaration

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and U.S. President Donald Trump have officially agreed in Washington to launch the “Trump route.”

“Armenia will cooperate with the United States to bring the ‘Trump route’ to life,” Pashinyan said during the trilateral meeting, Aysor.am reported.

Trump stressed that the declaration provides for the creation of the “Trump route for international peace and prosperity.” He noted the name was proposed by Pashinyan and Aliyev, not by himself.

Speaking about the “Zangezur corridor,” now called the “Trump route,” Trump stated: “The route will allow Azerbaijan to reach Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia will also establish an exclusive partnership with the U.S. to develop this corridor. The term may be extended up to 99 years, with the option to extend it for another 99 years after that. We expect significant infrastructure development. American companies are eager to enter these countries and invest heavily, which will bring economic benefits to all three nations.”

Following the remarks, Trump, Pashinyan, and Aliyev signed the document. Pashinyan added: “Congratulations to all of us, to the countries of our region, and to the world. As a result, the world will become a better place.”

The declaration states:

  1. The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, on August 8, 2025, in Washington, witnessed the initial signing by their foreign ministers of the agreed text of the peace and interstate relations agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They agreed to proceed toward the signing and final ratification of the Agreement and emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening peace between the two countries.
  2. They also witnessed the signing by the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan of a joint request to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to dissolve the OSCE Minsk process and related structures, calling on all OSCE participating states to accept this decision.
  3. They reaffirmed the importance of opening communications between the two countries for domestic, bilateral, and international transport based on respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction, to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond. This includes unobstructed communication between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenian territory, with reciprocal benefits for Armenia in international and domestic transportation.
  4. Armenia will work with the United States and other mutually agreed third parties to define the framework for the “Trump route for international peace and prosperity” (TRIPP) project within Armenia. They confirmed their determination to take all necessary measures in good faith to achieve this goal as soon as possible.
  5. They recognized the need to chart a path toward a bright future not determined by past conflict, in line with the United Nations Charter and the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. After a conflict that caused immense human suffering, conditions now exist to start truly good-neighborly relations, based on the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of acquiring territory by force. This principle, they stressed, is not and should never be subject to revision, paving the way to close the chapter of hostility. They firmly reject any attempts at revenge now or in the future.
  6. They expressed their belief that this summit lays a solid foundation for mutual respect and advancing peace in the region.
  7. They expressed deep gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for hosting this important summit, for his warm reception, and for his significant contribution to the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The declaration was signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
