Pashinyan, Kobakhidze hold phone call, discuss peace

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a phone conversation with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, the Armenian government’s press office reported.

Pashinyan briefed his counterpart on the results of the August 8 negotiations in Washington, including the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan,” the joint application to the OSCE on dissolving OSCE Minsk Group mechanisms, the unblocking of regional communications based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity, and the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project.

He thanked Kobakhidze for publicly welcoming the Washington agreements.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the bilateral and regional agenda, agreeing that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan would create new opportunities for the entire South Caucasus.

On August 8, at the White House, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration on the outcomes of their trilateral meeting. In the presence of the leaders, Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
