Karapetyan: 'Mer dzevov' movement to lay groundwork for new political force
Samvel Karapetyan, a businessman currently under two-month pre-trial detention, has issued a statement pointing to two significant upcoming events.
“First, tomorrow the court will hold a hearing on my unlawful detention. This is not just my issue. The decision made during this hearing will show whether justice still exists in Armenia. Are the judges ready to perform their duties with integrity, or will they compromise their reputations to appease a small circle? Many say the answer is already clear, but let’s wait and see,” Karapetyan wrote.
“Second, we will soon present the Our Way movement to the public. This initiative is based on clear ideas and envisions ambitious goals for Armenia. Our aims include:
- developing the economy,
- creating real opportunities for business and wealth,
- strengthening family and national values,
- restoring Armenia’s image as a reliable partner,
- ensuring dignified living for the people of Artsakh,
- rebuilding youth confidence in the future through education,
- preserving and defending our Holy Church.”
Our Way will become the foundation for forming a new political force — one that the public strongly desires. Our plans are firm. We will continue, in our own way,” the statement concluded.
On August 14, a hearing is scheduled at Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court on the motion to extend Samvel Karapetyan’s detention. On August 11, the Court of Criminal Appeals ruled his initial arrest unlawful. The Prosecutor’s Office announced it would appeal that decision. However, the Prosecutor General’s Office also clarified that this ruling has no bearing on the lawfulness or justification of the court decision imposing detention as a pre-trial measure.
