Armenia, Iran boost ties through new agreements

Armenia and Iran have strengthened bilateral ties through a new set of official agreements spanning sectors from economy and culture to healthcare.

Following high-level talks in Yerevan, a Joint Declaration between Armenia and Iran was signed along with multiple cooperation memorandums involving government bodies and sector-specific ministries.

The joint declaration was signed at the presidential residence after an expanded meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Both leaders personally endorsed the document.

Additionally, Armenia’s and Iran’s foreign ministries signed a memorandum on political consultations for the years 2025–2027 (Iranian calendar years 1404–1406). Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi were the signatories.

The Armenian Ministry of Economy and Iran’s National Standards Organization formalized a memorandum of cooperation covering standards, accreditation, conformity assessment, metrology, and technical regulation. It was signed by Armenian Minister Gevorg Papoyan and Iranian Vice President Seyed Hamid Pourmohammadi.

In tourism, a cooperation agreement was signed between Armenia’s Ministry of Economy and Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts.

In the field of vocational education and training, a memorandum covering joint initiatives for 2025–2029 was signed by Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Seyed Mohammad Atabaki.

An understanding was also reached in urban development and construction. A memorandum was signed between Armenia’s Urban Development Committee and Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, with Yeghiazar Vardanyan and Farzaneh Sadegh as signatories.

A regulatory agreement was reached in the pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors between Armenia’s Ministry of Health and Iran’s Ministry of Health. It was signed by Armenian Deputy Minister Armen Gasparyan and Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani.

The Armenian National Archives and Iran’s National Library and Archives signed a cooperation memorandum, represented by Artur Stepanyan and Raed Faridzadeh.

A similar agreement was signed between the National Library of Armenia and Iran’s National Library and Archives. Ambassador Grigor Hakobyan signed for Armenia and Hojatollah Ayoubi for Iran.

The History Museum of Armenia and the National Museum of Iran signed a memorandum on museum collaboration, endorsed by Davit Poghosyan and Hojatollah Ayoubi.

The final memorandum pertains to cinematic exchanges between the Armenian National Cinema Foundation and the relevant department of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. The agreement was signed by Davit Banuchyan and Raed Faridzadeh.
