The court has decided to extend Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan’s detention by another month.
The issue of Ajapahyan’s preventive measure was reviewed on September 2 at the Avan seat of Yerevan’s Court of General Jurisdiction, in a session presided over by Anna Meliksetyan.
According to the court, the measure was previously extended on August 15, 2025, and remains unchanged due to a high likelihood of repeated offenses, reports Armenpress.
“Assessing whether that basis has diminished today and whether it has decreased enough to consider alternatives, the court finds that no such change has occurred during this time,” said Meliksetyan.
She further explained that, given the judge’s mandatory participation in a week-long training course and the legitimacy of the motion submitted by the Prosecutor’s Office, the court deemed the one-month extension necessary.
The next court hearing is scheduled for September 15.
On August 15, the court extended Ajapahyan’s detention by 10 days.
Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan has been in custody since June 28 on charges under Article 422, Part 2 of the Criminal Code. He faces accusations of making public calls for the seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity, renunciation of sovereignty, or the violent overthrow of constitutional order.
