Opposition MP criticizes Pashinyan’s vague responses in parliament

Opposition MP Kristine Vardanyan from the Hayastan faction criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s September 10 appearance in parliament, stating that he failed to provide any coherent answers to the public.

In a Facebook post, Vardanyan wrote that Pashinyan presented what he called his “groundbreaking achievements and documents” for the first time in the National Assembly but failed to back them up.

“The public received no articulate response to any of the questions,” she wrote.

She said critics of the opposition were expecting solid, undeniable facts and clear, convincing answers to straightforward questions that would demonstrate Pashinyan had brought the long-awaited peace.

“Instead, it turned out that things are worse than we even imagined. Apart from labeling the opposition, the public got no coherent answers.”

She also shared examples from the Q&A:

  • MP: “If an incident occurs on the road you gave away, can our law enforcement intervene?”

Pashinyan: “I will not answer your illogical questions.”

  • MP: “Can you name one historical example of peace being achieved through captives and occupied lands?”

Pashinyan: “Are you Armenian?”

  • MP: “How is this peace if Aliyev calls our society ‘sick’ and demands we change our Constitution?”

Pashinyan: “Do you want to mourn?”

“This basically sums up everything people need to know about the documents signed on August 8,” her post concluded.

On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House, outlining the outcomes of the Washington meeting.

During the event, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the three leaders, initialed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
