Armenia, Azerbaijani delegations met near border

Last week, delegations led by the deputy prime ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in the southern parts of Armenia’s Syunik Province and Azerbaijan’s Zangilan District, the office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan confirmed, according to RFE/RL’s Armenian Service.

The delegations included representatives from the defense ministries, national security services, foreign ministries, and territorial administration ministries of both countries, as members of the commissions on border delimitation and security.

When asked about the timing, location, or agenda of the next session, Grigoryan’s office did not provide specifics, saying only that the matter is still under discussion.

Questions were also raised about whether the border delimitation process could continue from Syunik rather than Tavush, given the recent U.S.-brokered agreement in Washington on the Syunik road. Here too, officials avoided a direct answer, reiterating that the issue remains under discussion.

Earlier, on September 5, delegations headed by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev carried out reciprocal visits to each other’s territories.
