Ararat image removed from Armenian border stamp

Armenia will remove the image of Mount Ararat from its official border entry and exit stamp starting November 1, 2025, following a decision by the Armenian government. The matter was approved without public discussion during a cabinet meeting. The news was shared on Facebook by Edmon Marukyan, leader of the Bright Armenia party.

"Armenia has never had, nor currently has, territorial claims against Turkey. Armenia joined the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Council of Europe, and many other organizations without any objections from Turkey over such claims. Turkey has never raised this as an issue.

Understand clearly, what our government is doing has nothing to do with nonexistent territorial claims against Turkey. This is simply part of the process of editing our national identity.

If we don’t remove Nikol Pashinyan through elections, the next step will be the removal of Mount Ararat from the national coat of arms," Marukyan wrote.

Political and public figure Edgar Ghazaryan also weighed in on the decision, writing: "Georgia’s border stamps include a map of the country featuring both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Let this be a note to Armenia’s Minister of Death, who is trying to justify the exclusion of any imagery from the stamps."

The decision was passed during a cabinet session as a non-reportable item.
