Armenian, French officials discuss strategic ties in Paris

Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan met with French Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad in Paris on September 15 as part of an official working visit.

During the meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the current high level of Armenia-France political dialogue and underscored the importance of establishing a strategic partnership. They discussed upcoming joint initiatives and examined opportunities for advancing Armenia's European integration, alongside prospects for future bilateral cooperation.

Kostanyan briefed his French counterpart on steps taken by the Armenian government since adopting a law signaling the start of its accession process to the European Union. He also outlined the planned reform agenda aimed at deepening ties with the EU. The organization of the 2026 European Political Community Summit in Armenia was also on the agenda.

The Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted the historic agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan during U.S.-mediated talks held in Washington on August 8. He presented Armenia’s position on peacebuilding and exchanged views with Haddad on urgent international and regional matters.

On August 8, a trilateral meeting at the White House brought together Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. A joint declaration summarizing the talks was signed.

Additionally, in the presence of the three leaders, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov preliminarily signed an agreement titled “On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
