On September 17, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held meetings in The Hague with President of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Tomoko Akane and Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler.
During the discussions, the parties addressed the cooperation between Armenia and the ICC, along with their joint efforts to strengthen the rule of law and uphold international legal standards.
The agenda also included initiatives aimed at enhancing Armenia’s national legal framework in accordance with the Rome Statute, and opportunities for capacity building in the field.
Minister Mirzoyan also signed the ICC’s guest of honor book during his visit.
Armenia became a state party to the ICC on February 1, 2024, following the Armenian parliament’s ratification of the Rome Statute. Russia previously criticized Yerevan’s move as “unacceptable,” citing the ICC’s “illegal warrants” against Russian leadership. However, Armenia has repeatedly stated that the ratification is crucial for holding the Azerbaijani regime accountable.
