Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan wrote on his Facebook page that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is "consciously carrying out the destruction of his country, fully aware of the scale of his wrongdoing."
He stated that “it is nearly impossible to recover from the heavy legacy left by Pashinyan.”
In a post titled "The urgency of Nikol Pashinyan’s inevitable downfall, or why he hates history", Ter-Petrosyan referenced a well-known episode from the History of Armenia by Movses Khorenatsi, in which King Artavazd reproaches his father, King Artashes II, during his funeral: "While you went away and took the entire country with you, whom am I to rule in these ruins?"
Ter-Petrosyan emphasized that unlike King Artashes II, who destroyed the country in his absence, "Pashinyan is personally implementing the destruction of his own state." He added that Pashinyan is fully aware of the damage he is inflicting, which, according to him, is evident in the prime minister’s "frequent nervous reactions, constant insults, and threats directed at his opponents."
"I do not envy Armenia’s future leadership, because Pashinyan is leaving behind such a burdensome legacy that it will be nearly impossible to recover from," he said.
"As for how history has treated similar individuals and what labels they have earned — everyone already knows that. I leave the interpretation of these historical parallels to the thoughtful reader," Ter-Petrosyan concluded.
