Hayk Mamijanyan, MP from the I Have Honor faction, announced that he had sent an official letter to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, asking her to arrange a meeting with Armenian captives held in Baku. He also addressed the same request to EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos.
“Given the closure of the International Committee of the Red Cross office in Azerbaijan, I officially appealed today, requesting that the EU ambassador in Azerbaijan visit our captives in Baku. In the letter, I outlined the dangers they face in prison, the staged trials, and the humanitarian importance of such visits,” Mamijanyan wrote on Facebook.
He also noted that he had met with Ingeborg Ter Laak of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Jakob Wöllenstein, head of the foundation’s South Caucasus program, and Liana Marukyan, project manager of the Yerevan office.
In September 2023, after a nine-month blockade and the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s Armenian population, Azerbaijan captured former Artsakh presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and Arayik Harutyunyan, along with ex–state minister Ruben Vardanyan, foreign minister Davit Babayan, and other former leaders. They face fabricated charges that could result in life imprisonment. On January 17, sham trials against Artsakh’s leadership began in Baku.
