RA FM delivers peace message at G20 ministerial meeting

Speaking at the session held during the 80th UN General Assembly, Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that sustainable development is impossible without peace. He recalled that in the same hall last year he emphasized Armenia’s commitment to regional peace.

“After the successful trilateral meeting on August 8 in Washington and the initialing of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, I declare that peace is now established,” he said.

Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative, designed to enhance regional and wider connectivity. He noted that the recently signed joint declaration by the U.S., Armenia, and Azerbaijan reaffirmed fundamental principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and jurisdiction. Work now continues on technical solutions under these principles.

He underlined that full opening of transport links and realization of transit and trade potential would be transformative. Implementation of the Crossroads of Peace, including the TRIPP connectivity program, would foster economic growth, dialogue, and new opportunities for people-to-people contact, contributing to stability and prosperity.

Mirzoyan thanked partner countries that have welcomed the initiative and expressed hope for G20 support in advancing this vision. He also reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to a renewed multilateral system centered on the UN, capable of securing peace, development, and human rights.

On August 8, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration at the White House. On the same occasion, Armenian FM Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the peace and interstate relations treaty.
