On October 2, during the 7th summit of the European Political Community in Copenhagen, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of further implementing trust-building measures and the benefits of regional transport connectivity.
The two leaders highlighted the significance of the agreements reached at the Washington Peace Summit, initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue efforts toward strengthening peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to the Prime Minister’s press office.
They underlined the strategic benefits of enhanced regional transport links, discussed infrastructure development in Azerbaijan, and progress on the “TRIPP” project in Armenia. They also exchanged views on the implementation of the Washington Declaration.
In this context, both sides welcomed the unanimous decision to discontinue the OSCE Minsk process and all related structures.
The leaders stressed the importance of continuing confidence-building measures and agreed to maintain direct contact.
In Washington, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States — Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump — officially reached an agreement to launch the “Trump Route.”
“The route will allow Azerbaijan to reach Nakhichevan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia is also establishing an exclusive partnership with the U.S. to develop this corridor, which may be extended for up to 99 years, with a promise to renew it for another 99 after that. We expect major infrastructure development. U.S. companies are eager to enter these countries and invest heavily, which will bring economic benefits to all three nations,” Trump said.
On September 11, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia did not lease land to the U.S. for 99 years but instead granted construction rights.
