ECH summit in Yerevan to focus on regional links

Yerevan will host the 8th European Political Community (EPC) summit on May 4, 2026, with one of the key themes set to be connectivity, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced during the closing session of the EPC summit in Copenhagen.

“Let me congratulate Denmark on excellently organizing the 7th European Political Community summit. Today, we addressed pressing issues advancing the political, security, and economic agendas of all our nations. Building on the success of previous ECH summits, Armenia is preparing to host the next, the 8th, summit in Yerevan,” said Pashinyan.

Hosting the summit, he stated, will reinforce Armenia’s integration into the European family and provide an opportunity to showcase progress in democratic reforms.

“I would like to once again thank each of you for the honor of welcoming you to Yerevan. Closer ties with Europe are of strategic importance for the South Caucasus. ECH summits have played a vital role in promoting peace and stability in our region. It is noteworthy that during the 2022 summit in Prague, Armenia and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. This agreement was reached with the presence and active engagement of French President Emmanuel Macron and then-European Council President Charles Michel,” he noted.

He also recalled that last year, within the EPC framework, Armenia and Azerbaijan supported each other’s candidacies to host upcoming EPC summits.

“These agreements effectively laid the groundwork for the historic Washington summit, where President Aliyev and I declared peace. Now, when you visit Yerevan in 2026 and Baku in 2027, you will witness two countries working to institutionalize and strengthen peace and connectivity,” Pashinyan added.

He emphasized that connectivity will be a central topic at the Yerevan summit. Implementation of the Middle Corridor and the uninterrupted movement of goods, energy, and fiber-optic cables between Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia are of mutual interest.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening Europe's capacity to counter hybrid threats while upholding democratic governance, rule of law, free and fair elections, and political pluralism, even under internal or external pressure.

Armenia, which will also host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity next year, hopes the EPC summit can serve as a platform to discuss the green economy agenda, with the goal of reflecting those discussions at COP17 on the global stage.

Pashinyan confirmed that preparations for the EPC Yerevan summit are already underway and promised to share new ideas and initiatives in the coming months aimed at strengthening the European Political Community.

He invited all participants to the summit on May 4, 2026, and added: “We are planning an informal, friendly welcome reception on the evening of Sunday, May 3. So, I hope to see all of you there. It will be a great honor and pleasure to host you.”
