La Repubblica daily praises Armenia’s heritage, beauty

Armenia is portrayed as one of the world’s most beautiful and safest countries in an article by Francesca Alliata Bronner, published on October 9 by Italy’s prestigious daily La Repubblica, according to Armenpress.

Described as a unique travel destination rich in nature and culture, Armenia is presented as a borderland miracle. The author emphasizes Armenia’s special geographical position—at the crossroads of Asia and Europe—with ancient history, a strong winemaking tradition, and renowned hospitality. It is noted that the country is only a four-hour direct flight from Italy.

Although slightly larger than Sicily in size, Armenia is said to feel culturally close to Italians, thanks to centuries of shared history and interaction.

Special attention is given to Armenia being the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD, through the preaching of Saint Gregory the Illuminator. It is also noted that relics of Saint Gregory are preserved in Naples.

The article explores Armenia’s cultural and historical heritage, highlighting the symbolic Monastery Route. Although not officially established, it is recommended as a cultural itinerary starting in Yerevan, known for its pink tuff architecture and the impressive Cascade.

Notable sites along this route include the Etchmiadzin Cathedral—one of the oldest Christian sanctuaries in the world; Noravank, a 13th-century monastery nestled among red cliffs; Tatev Monastery accessible via the world’s longest aerial tramway, Wings of Tatev; the Selim Caravanserai, one of the best-preserved Silk Road stops; and Lake Sevan, referred to as Armenia’s “blue pearl” with the iconic Sevanavank monastery.
