Minister defends import of Kazakh 4th type wheat

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan addressed public concerns over recent imports of fourth-type wheat from Kazakhstan. In a Facebook post, he stated that this type of grain has always been imported to Armenia.

“Dear people, I don't understand what you're surprised about. Armenia has always received wheat of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th types, and will continue to do so,” he wrote.

Papoyan noted that the import of fourth-type wheat is not a recent development: “Such wheat came to Armenia not only now, not only under Serzh, Robert, and Levon, but also during the times of Demirchyan, Zarobyan, Kochinyan, and their predecessors.”

He ended his post with a message to critics: “Love you all, including those who call their morning bread animal feed.”

Fourth-type wheat is primarily used for producing animal feed or added in small quantities to flour blends when baking bread. The wheat imported from Kazakhstan, through Azerbaijan and Georgia, belongs to this category.
