Pashinyan: Armenia’s defense strategy now “rooted in legitimacy”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a press briefing in parliament, commented on recent arms purchases, stating that Armenia’s “current defense strategy is grounded in legitimacy,” Armenpress reports.

“Why can we now acquire this weaponry, but couldn’t before? One of the key reasons is that today our strategies are based on legitimacy,” Pashinyan said.

He stated that in the past, international partners explicitly said they could not sell Armenia weapons due to a lack of guarantees that the equipment would not be used beyond internationally recognized borders.

“They told us respectfully that without assurances, they couldn't sell to us, fearing we might deploy weapons in territories not considered part of Armenia’s sovereign land,” Pashinyan stated.

He also reiterated his willingness to invite journalists to view the newly acquired military equipment, but without media coverage.

Pashinyan had previously announced he was ready to showcase Armenia’s recent defense acquisitions to political parties and citizens. He called for organizing 50-member groups with designated coordinators to attend such viewings.
