Catholicos meets Armenian educators in Kolkata

As part of his patriarchal visit to India, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II held meetings with trustees of the Holy Nazareth Church in Kolkata, as well as with the administration and faculty of the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy.

He underscored the importance of the clergy’s role in education.

In a report aired by Shoghakat TV, it was noted that Karekin II visited the renovated dormitory wing of the Davidian Girls’ School, which is set to reopen in a few months to accommodate female students of the Philanthropic Academy. Modern housing and learning conditions are being created for the students.

The center had been closed in 2010, and it took 16 years of persistent effort to obtain permission to reconstruct the building. The Catholicos personally appealed to the Government of India to secure the necessary authorization, according to Panorama.am .

“I want to express my appreciation to the inspector of the Philanthropic Academy and to Father Tachat, the spiritual leader of the Holy Nazareth Church, who have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the sacred mission of educating and guiding you. There is no greater joy for a clergyman than to devote himself to the education and upbringing of the nation's children, making them worthy sons and daughters of our people,” said Karekin II.
