FROST SPOILED OVER HALF OF APRICOT AND PEACH HARVEST

Some 60-65% of the apricot harvest and a bit less of the peach crops have already been lost in Armenia due to unfavorable climatic conditions. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Armenia Samvel Avetisian told journalists about it. In his words, the harvest was lost due to hail, frost and abundant rains, which caused activation of different diseases of the fruit trees. The damage caused by the element has not been finally counted up. Avetisian noted that the annual harvest of apricots made some 10 thousand tons. To all appearance, it will be necessary to appeal to the UN and the World Bank for assistance, as the budget does not provide for expenses to compensate for the damage caused to the peasants, he said. Let us remind that last year the cereal crop was notably damaged. The international experts assessed the detriment as making $150 million, but due to the external and internal aid only a third of the loss was compensated for.
