Outcomes of “Computer for All” pilot project launched on September 22 were summarized at the news conference in Yerevan on December 2.
As Vadim Tikhonichev, Hewlett Packard’s CIS projects director told journalists, in the framework of “Computer for All” project the Armenian population purchased computers at preferential terms. According to him, computer sales doubled the planned level: 1300 instead of 500.
While 77 per cent of program participants are representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, the next stage of the project “Computers for Teachers” to be launched soon will target employees of education sphere. Negotiations with ISPs are underway to provide program participants temporary Internet access for free.
“Computer for All” project is implemented by the Armenian government, Enterprise Incubator Foundation, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, with assistance of Unicomp and ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank.
