RUSSIAN-AZERI HIGH RANK TALKS HELD IN KREMLIN

Today official talks between the President of Russia and the head of Azerbaijan took place in Kremlin. The unofficial meeting of Vladimir Putin and Heydar Aliyev was held in Novo-Ogaryovo the day before. Questions concerning strengthening stability in the Caucasus and the Caspian region, of participation in the antiterrorist campaign held by the United States were discussed. The presidents considered the opportunity of holding a meeting of the leaders of the Caucasian countries within the framework of “the Caucasian four” and pursuing a coordinated policy in the sphere of security and struggle against terrorism. The question of the status of Gabali radar station became one of the main topics. Putin and Aliyev also concerned the prospects of cooperation in the air defense sphere. The opportunity of participation of Russia in the project of construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline was also discussed. Attention was paid to Karabakh problem, too.
