On March 15, 2010, the Public Movement Multinational Georgia (PMMG) and representatives of the Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians (ATA) held a meeting in the vicinity of inactive Surb Minas church located in Havlabar, Old Tbilisi district. Over 90 years the church has been kept in deplorable state. Illegal construction works were conducted on church territory; several times the church has been on fire.
The meeting has been attended by representatives of Armenian public schools, NGOs and opinion leaders. Representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia as well as some staff members of US Embassy have also participated in the meeting.
As resolved at the meeting, PMMG and ATA will undertake the necessary measures in order to oppose and stop the illegal construction in the venue of the church as well as demand to conduct cleaning works and conservation of the building until its status is finally decided. The results of the meeting as well as requirements of the community will be submitted to the representatives of local self-government with whom the agreement has been already reached on the cleaning of Surb Nshan Armenian church Surb Nshan located in Old Tbilisi.
