Armenian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Samvel Avetisyan said that hail stations can reduce damage by 50% only, while developed countries already use high-technology anti-hail net for that purpose.
“Such expensive nets will be tested in Armenia soon, specifically, on the lands belonging to Argentine businessman of Armenian descent Eduardo Ernekian,” he told a press conference in Yerevan.
A action plan to develop anti-hail system in Armenia in 2010-2011 was approved in 2009. According to it, 79 hail stations will be placed to protect 30 thousand hectares of lands in Aragatsotn, Aratat, Armavir, Kotayk, Lori and Shirak regions. AMD 800mln, mostly from the state budget, partly from other sources, will be invested in 2010 to place hail stations in the territory of Armenia.
