Today first congress of “Republic” Party started commenced in Yerevan. As Chairman of the party Political Council, former Mayor of Yerevan Albert Bazeyan noted, “Republic” had a mission to continue the cause of Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsian killed by assassins in October 1999. The other leader of the party, ex-Premier Aram Sargsian (brother of Vazgen Sargsian) stated in connection with the foreign policy held by the country’s leadership that Armenia should exercise weighed policy, “short of complementary principle”. He stressed it was necessary to strengthen Armenian-Russian strategic cooperation that would allow to guarantee Armenia’s security in the region. Both politicians were for President Robert Kocharian’s resignation. Leaders of People’s Party Stepan Demirchian and “National Unity” Party Artashes Geghamian, who addressed the congress, also joined the claim of resignation of the head of the country.
