RUSSIAN MILITARY BASE WITHDRAWAL FROM AKHALKALAKI UNREALISTIC IN NEXT FEW YEARS- Governor of Samtskhe-Javakhetia considers

The Georgian President’s Plenipotentiary in Samtskhe-Javakhetia region Gigla Baramidze believes 1-2 years are not enough for withdrawal of the Russian military base dislocated in Akhalkalaki as this question is associated with social-economic problems of the local population. As reported by CNA agency making reference to “Prime News”, approximately 1200 out of the 15 thousand residents of Akhalkalaki region work at the base and support their families of 4-5 members. In his words, there is a special decree of the Georgian President, which envisages solution of social-economic problems of the locals and their employment connected with the base withdrawal. In the meantime, preparation to liquidation of the base takes place according to the plan. The question of the term of the Russian military base presence in Akhalkalaki will be subject of negotiations between Georgia and Russia. As it is known Moscow considers this period to be equal to 14 years. Georgia insists on three years.
