Standstill of the Armenian Atomic Power Station may monthly cost to Armenia 4 million dollars as payment for gas. As reported by “Arka” agency, Armenian Deputy Minister of Energy Areg Galstian stated this at today’s meeting with journalists. He noted at the same time that “financial burden” of the nuclear fuel for the station makes 12-13 million dollars a year. In A.Galstian’s opinion, exploitation of the Nuclear Plant is more expedient for Armenia. He stressed that at present the energy is being produced mainly by Hrazdan heat-electric generating station, partly by Yerevan cogeneration plant, which supplies energy for “Nairit” Stock Company. In A.Galstian’s words, at present some 80% of electric power is being produced by cogeneration plants. “When we restart the Atomic Power Plant, it will produce 60% of this amount,” – the Deputy Minister said.
A.Galstian noted that the problem of exporting Russian nuclear fuel to Armenia would finally be solved after Minister of Energy Karen Galustian, who holds negotiations with the Russian party, arrives from Moscow. Let us note that “according to the information available, the negotiations proceed positively”.
Let us remind that planned preventive works are being held at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant since July 10. They had last been carried out July 29 till November 30 last year.
