CE APPEALED TO NKR AUTHORITIES TO REFRAIN FROM HOLDING ELECTIONS OF LOCAL AUTONOMOUS BODIES

Council of Europe has appealed to the authorities of Nagorno Karabakh to refrain from holding elections of the local autonomous bodies planned for September 5. The document, signed by Chairman of CE Minister Committee Ernst Valch, Chairman of CE Parliamentary Assembly lord Russell Johnston and CE Secretary-General Walter Schwimmer, says “the so-called elections cannot be considered legitimate”. The authors of the declaration think that in case of holding the elections the position of the Karabakh side will contradict to the obligations undertaken by Armenia and Azerbaijan while entering the Council of Europe.
