ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) Office in Yerevan refused to provide information on the identity of the Armenian citizen taken hostage by the Azeris.
Earlier, Azeri authorities told ICRC that one more Armenian citizen is held hostage. In accordance with the statement of the head of the working committee for the issues of captives, hostages and missing persons, Armen Gabriyelyan, most probably, Arthur Badalyan, a resident of Tavush region, captivated by the Azeris on May 9, 2009 is meant.
However, in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the head of PR department at ICRC representation in Yerevan, Ashot Astabatsyan refrained from providing the name of the Armenian captive, not having been authorised to divulge such information.
“We’re aware that the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross met with Armenian captive in Azerbaijan on November 5.”
The ICRC representative was unable to provide any information regarding negotiations on the return of the captive in question.
In accordance with Armenian Ministry of Defence-circulated data, 6 Armenian servicemen and a family of 5 are currently held hostage in Azerbaijan.
