Reduction of Russian mobile operators’ roaming tariffs will continue in Russia and CIS

Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service believes that international and long-distance roaming prices of the country's mobile operators are still too high, its head Igor Artemyev said on Thursday, January 13.

"In general, this work (aimed at cutting tariffs) should continue because roaming fees are still too expensive throughout Russia as well as outside the country," Artemyev told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

In 2010, the service accused the Big Three operators – Mobile TeleSystems, MegaFon and VimpelCom – of breaking antimonopoly rules by inflating roaming prices.

As a result, the companies agreed to reduce prices for roaming and voice services by 33.4-50 percent, for short text messages by 66.7 percent, for mobile Internet by 50-75 percent, RIA Novosti reported.
