YEREVAN, May 19. /Mediamax/. The unexpected visit of the U.S. co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk Group, Carey Cavanaugh, to Baku on May 5th was due to Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliev’s request. Carey Cavanaugh told this in the interview to the special correspondent of Mediamax in the USA before the visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen to the region, which began Friday.
Cavanaugh said before he visited Baku he was in France and Germany, where he discussed the Karabakh peace process. “I received the call of president Aliev in Germany. The president knew about the upcoming meeting of the Minsk Group co-chairmen in Vienna and asked to go to Baku to discuss several questions,” Carey Cavanaugh said. He noted that he decided not to visit Yerevan as his meeting with the president of Armenia Robert Kocharian was already planned on May 11th in New York.
