COMMUNISTS SUGGEST TURNING TO THE PRESIDENT TO HOLD A REFERENDUM ABOUT ARMENIA’S JOINING TO RUSSIA-BELARUS UNION

YEREVAN, May 16. /Mediamax/. The faction of the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) spoke with an initiative to hold an extraordinary parliamentary sitting today to discuss the address to the president on holding a national referendum on the issue of Armenia’s joining to Russia-Belarus Union.
Member of the CPA faction, Yuri Manukian reminded in the interview to Mediamax that in accord with the Constitution the decision to hold a referendum is taken by the president of Armenia. According to him, CPA’s initiative to hold an extraordinary sitting is supported by 40 parliamentarians, which is not enough for its convocation. “If our proposal isn’t supported during the electronic voting, today at the meeting, we will blame the parliament in unwillingness to listen to the public opinion regarding this issue”, Yuri Manukian said.
Deputy of the parliament, leader of the national initiative “Armenia-Russia-Belarus” Aghasi Arshakian refused to comment on the proposal of the communists, which, judging to his quarrel in the lobby with the deputies from CPA, turned out to be unexpected for him.
CPA will hold a rally today, dedicated to the “question of Armenia’s accession to Russia-Belarus Union.
Official Yerevan representatives have frequently said that the issue of Armenia’s joining to this Union is not on the foreign policy agenda of the country. –0–
