Apple’s next-generation iPad in production by foreign manufacturers

Apple's next-generation iPad is in production by foreign manufacturers, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

The new iPad – which has been nicknamed the iPad 2 unofficially for months – is thinner and lighter and features a front-facing camera designed to take advantage of Apple's FaceTime video chat standard, the Journal said, citing unnamed sources "familiar with the matter."

The iPad 2 will also include a faster processor, a more powerful graphics processor and more memory. The new iPad will not, however, feature a very high-resolution jump, and its 9.7-inch display will be similar to that of the first-generation iPad, The Los Angeles Times reported.
