COUNCIL OF EUROPE EXPERTS ARRIVE IN ARMENIA TODAY

YEREVAN, May 4. /Mediamax/. Three independent experts appointed by Council of Europe Secretary General Walter Schwimmer are to visit Armenia from 4 to 7 May, Mediamax was informed today in the press service of the CoE.
The experts will visit Azerbaijan from 7 to 11 May. The aim of the visit of the experts, Stefan Trechsel, Evert Alkema and Alexander Arabadjiev, is to do a post-accession monitoring of the two countries and to inquire into cases of alleged political prisoners in Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The delegation will have meetings with the authorities in both countries, with NGOs and with representatives of other international organizations. The report of the experts should be submitted to the CoE consideration by 30 June 2001. –0–
