YEREVAN, April 26. /Mediamax/. “It is unfortunate, but true, that Armenian-Turkish relations today are – if we don’t say non-existent – then completely unsatisfactory”, Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian said in the exclusive interview to Mediamax. Minister stressed that “today those relations could have been on a wholly different plane, had Turkey not adopted the wrong policy regarding Armenia in 1991-92”.
“The fundamental obstacle for future Armenian-Turkish relations is our lack of trust in Turkey. Given the events of the beginning of the 20th century, Turkey had the opportunity, following Armenia’s independence, to open a new page in the relations between our two peoples. However, by choosing today’s policy – which is categorically anti-Armenian in its leaning – they further aggravated the distrust factor”, Armenian Minister said.
Nevertheless, Oskanian stated, Armenia is open to the possibility of improved relations, and does take steps in that direction. –0–
