PRESIDENTS OF ARMENIA AND AZERBAIJAN “MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS” IN PEACE TALKS

YEREVAN, April 7. /Mediamax/. The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan are expected to meet with President Bush in Washington on Monday after making significant progress toward a settlement of their conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh in peace talks in Florida, senior officials close to the negotiations said Friday as the press release by AP agency reported.
Bush and others in his administration welcome the steps Azerbaijani President Geidar Aliev and Armenian President Robert Kocharian have taken toward peace, and encourage them to move further, the officials told The Associated Press.
Press secretary of Robert Kocharian, Vahe Gabrielian said Friday evening in the telephone interview to the Public Television of Armenia that the meeting of the Presidents of the USA and Armenia will take place on Monday.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said on April 3rd that President Bush would closely follow the course of the talks in Key West. “If success is achieved in future, at a certain stage, I believe the President of the United States will express willingness to meet with the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Will this happen this week or sometime in the future, I don’t know,” Colin Powell noted. –0–
