YEREVAN, April 4. /Mediamax/. The fact that Robert Kocharian is the former leader of Nagorno Karabakh makes it difficult for him to offer serious concessions to Azerbaijan, the New York Times writes today in an article dedicated to the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents started Tuesday in Florida.
A resolution of the dispute would also represent a first step toward allowing Turkey, an important American ally and a supporter of Azerbaijan, to resume normal relations with Armenia.
The paper writes that U.S. Secretary of State Powell’s direct involvement in talks is a sign that the United States would like to see a resolution of the dispute to encourage stability in the oil-rich region of the Caucasus. –0–
