SECRETARY OF STATE DID NOT GIVE CLEAR ANSWER ABOUT PRESERVATION OF TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF AZERBAIJAN

YEREVAN, April 4. /Mediamax/. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, speaking at a briefing in Florida Tuesday didn’t give a clear answer to the question, “how close the sides are to peace and how broad was the preservation of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan discussed?”.
“I have only had a meeting which each of the two presidents separately. We haven’t begun our plenary session, and I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to start characterizing various negotiating positions until we’ve actually begun our discussions,” Powell said.
U.S. Secretary noted that a number of ideas on Karabakh settlement was being discussed. “There are some ideas that the two Presidents have discussed with representatives of the co-chairs, with President Chirac and with President Putin. I would rather not characterize new proposals, old proposals. There are common understandings and there are points of difference that we will be discussing over the next several days,” Powell noted. –0–
