“ARMENIA FAILED TO PRESERVE THE STATUS OF RUSSIA’S ALLY”

YEREVAN, March 22. /Mediamax/. The political secretary of “Socialistic Armenia” union, Ashot Manucharian considers the process of Karabakh conflict settlement “crucial” for Armenia.
Manucharian said today at a press conference in Yerevan that processes developing in the region will directly influence the future existence of Armenia. Manucharian said the realization of plans of the West will result in Turkey being a “master” of the Southern Caucasian region. Armenia will completely appear under the influence of Turkey if it accepts Western proposals on the Karabakh conflict settlement, Manucharian said. According to him, Russia could have become the only power and strategic ally of Armenia which would resist this, but Armenia failed to preserve the status of Russia’s ally.
“Today we need to find acceptable formulas to consolidate cooperation with Russia, which shares Armenia’s views on regional development”, Armenian politician stressed.
On 18 October 2000, A. Manucharian said at a press conference in Yerevan that he had irrefutable facts, proving that “the Premier of Armenia Vazgen Sarkisian and the Speaker of the Parliament Karen Demirchian were killed by the terrorists on 27 October 1999 because of their disagreements with the plan of territorial swap between Armenia and Azerbaijan, proposed by the West”.
In early 90s Ashot Manucharian was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia. He held the post of President Levon Ter-Petrosian’s counselor on national security issues.
