YEREVAN, March 22. /Mediamax/. Deputy commander for the U.S. European Command, General Carlton Fulford said today that he discussed with the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs of Armenia the possibilities of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and “the beginning of a dialogue to ease up the contradictions”.
General Fulford, who arrived in Armenia for a one-day working visit, stated about this at a press-conference in Yerevan. He noted that the American side is going to continue the consultations with representatives of Armenian and Turkish military leadership “to find a solution to the existing conflicts”.
General Carlton Fulford voiced his opinion that Ankara is interested in the establishment of peace and stability in the region, as this, according to him, meets the national interests of Turkey.
Deputy commander of the U.S. European Command said that he discussed the problems of regional security with the Defense Minister of Armenia Serzh Sarkisian and Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian. “I am satisfied with the results of my visit to Armenia. The meetings in Yerevan helped me to understand better the security issues Armenia and the whole region are concerned about”, the American general said.
Carlton Fulford was one of the responsible for carrying out “Shield in desert” and “Storm in desert” operations in 1991-1992. –0–
