YEREVAN, March 2. /Mediamax/. At the meeting of the Presidents of the Ukraine and Armenia, held on March 1 within the framework of the official visit of the Armenian President to Ukraine, the two leaders discussed issues on creation and functioning of transport corridors, Mediamax was informed in the press service of the Ukrainian embassy in Armenia.
Ukrainian leader Kuchma said Armenia and Ukraine are interested in transferring Ukrainian goods to Iran through Armenia, and the Iranian goods to the Ukraine, as well as to import Armenian and Iranian goods to Europe through Ukraine.
In his turn Armenian President Robert Kocharian said they discussed at the meeting the whole range of bilateral relations. In Kocharian’s word, “there are no discrepancies between Armenia and Ukraine today”. Armenian President considers the relations between the two countries to be perspective and stresses that “serious work” must be done for their activation.
President Kocharian also said they discussed questions on increasing the effectiveness of Ilyichyovsk-Poti train ferry, which is “the shortest and cheapest route for Armenian-Ukrainian trade”.
Ukraine is interested in cooperation with Armenia within the frames of “INOGATE” energy carriers transportation program as well. Ukraine’s participation in the construction of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline can become an important step in this direction. The pipeline construction is supported by the European commission as a perspective way of gas transportation from Georgia to the Ukraine, and then to Europe.
