YEREVAN, February 20. /Mediamax/. Anna Lindh, Foreign Minister of Sweden, presiding in the EU, stated today that Yerevan assured EU “Troika” that the Karabakh conflict must be resolved only through peaceful, political means.
After the meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharian, the Minister informed that EU Troika discussed with the Armenian leadership the state of the Karabakh conflict and the process of political and economic reforms in the region.
The EU is expanding, and the Southern Caucasian region will become our neighbor afterwards, the Minister said. “It’s important for us to develop relations with our future direct neighbors”, she said. The EU will get the opportunity to be more involved in regional processes at the soonest settlement of the regional conflicts, including the Karabakh issue”, Anna Lindh said.
“We’re eagerly waiting for the results of the Karabakh settlement, which will allow to continue the regional cooperation. On our part, we’ll do everything possible to provide coordination of European institutions – the European Union, Council of Europe and the OSCE, we are ready to do everything possible to assist the resolution of this conflict, render economic and political assistance to the countries of the region”, Anna Lindh said. –0–
