YEREVAN, February 14. /Mediamax/. On Feb.14, at the trial of the case of the terrorist act against NKR president, which is proceeding in Stepanakert, the lawyer of accused Samvel Babayan – Zhudeks Shakarian continued his speech, the correspondent of Mediamax informed from Stepanakert.
Shakarian thinks contradictory the statements of accused David Gulian, Varuzhan Melkumian, Erik Faramazian, Khachatur Petrosian and Sasun Aghajanian, who testify the involvement of NKR ex defense minister in the terrorist act of March 22.
The lawyer called the court when bringing in the verdict to be based not only on the statements Babayan made last April 3 during the preliminary investigation. Shakarian also spoke with solicitation to terminate the criminal case in the part that concerns the organization of the terrorist act. He also suggested returning the materials on the fact of theft of weapon for further examination. The lawyer, at the same time, asked to change the preventive punishment regarding defendant Babayan’s written undertaking not to leave the republic.
Following this, a word for remarks was given to state prosecutors Raisa Igoshkina and Vahram Avakian. Both the prosecutors insisted that the attempt upon the life of NKR president were qualified as a terrorist act and state crime, and demanded to leave the degree of punishment, specified in the speech for the prosecution, unchanged. -0-
