YEREVAN, February 14. /Mediamax/. The trial of the case of the terrorist act against NKR President, committed on March 22, 2000, was resumed on February 13. As the correspondent of Mediamax reported from Stepanakert, the victims and the counsel for the defense spoke at the session.
Deputy of NKR National Assembly, Karen Baburian, representing the interests of NKR president, stated that Arkady Ghukasian doesn’t demand the bringing of a suit, as he is sure that the court will pass a just verdict. The other victims expressed the same viewpoint. Following this, the lawyers of the defendants spoke in turn at the session.
The last word was given to the lawyer of the main accused – Samvel Babayan. The defense said that the terrorist act was organized by third forces to isolate Babayan from foreign policy processes. He said the statements Babayan made on April 3, 2000 didn’t correspond to reality. The lawyer expressed his supposition that they were obtained by applying means affecting the psyche and by violence. The defense named David Gulian’s statements inconsistent and biased, and charged the accused Vardan Tashchian with giving false statements against Babayan.
