27.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. “I sincerely want the Karabakh conflict to be resolved as soon as possible,” French President Jacques Chirac said after his meeting with the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Paris on January 26.
Chirac voiced his hope that Kocharian-Aliyev meetings will be crowned in success. Armenian President Robert Kocharian noted “this was the first time the possible ways of the conflict resolution got the most wide discussion at such trilateral meeting”. Kocharian said they agreed with Aliyev to activate their bilateral contacts. Besides, consultations will be held with co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group, Kocharian said. “I can say the Paris meeting stimulated the search for a mutually acceptable variant of the conflict settlement”, Armenian President summed up.
In reply to the question concerning possible joining of Karabakh representatives to Kocharian-Aliyev dialogue, Azeri President said: “When we come to some concrete variant with President Kocharian, then a third, a fourth or a fifth side may join the process”. Heydar Aliyev didn’t specify, who was meant under “a forth or a fifth side”. Replying to the same question, Robert Kocharian said the search for ways of the conflict settlement would be incomplete without the participation of the third side (Nagorno Karabakh). -0-
