According to Oberndorfer, this program has purchased, transported and distributed approximately 6,300 metric tons supplementary cattle feed to approximately 60.000 of the most seriously affected subsistence farmers. The total cost of this program is estimated to be about $1 million.
The U.S. Embassy is currently working with the World Bank resident representative on the plans for supporting a spring 2001 planting program. As the special assistant noted, in this regard, the WB plans to allocate about $1.2 million.
“All of these programs represent exceptional decisions both in Yerevan and in Washington and are approved by the U.S. government”, Oberndorfer noted. -0-
