KOCHARIAN AND ALIYEV TO MEET ON ARMENIAN-AZERI BORDER IN EARLY 2001

Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan – Robert Kocharian and Heydar Aliyev are to meet in the first quarter of next year on their joint border to discuss the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, President Kocharian said in Yerevan in the interview with Reuters on December 21.
The Armenian leader said he would continue to meet Aliyev, probably next in Strasbourg in January, during the official ceremony of Armenia’s and Azerbaijan’s entrance to the Council of Europe.
President Kocharian was cautious about the prospects of Karabakh conflict settlement. According to him, to make predictions in this question is a “thankless task”.
“Too optimistic statements from leaders raise excessive expectations in society in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Karabakh,” he said. -0-
