From June 24 to July 3 the residents and the guests of the Armenian capital are provided an opportunity to visit a exhibition and sale of Indian products, titled Best of India.
The event is organized by New Delhi Corporation in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia and the support of Embassy of India.
As last year, the exhibition takes place at Yerevan’s Dynamo Sports Complex, however there are three times less participants this year. More than 20 Indian companies dealing in consumer items including Garments, Handicrafts, Furniture items, Semi-precious Gems & Jewellery, Home Furnishings, Footwear, Leather products, Sports items, Hand Tools, Herbal products, Kitchen equipment, Curtains, food stuff etc. are participating in the exhibition.
As the Indian embassy informed PanARMENIAN.Net, some 20-25% of population in Armenia is interested in Indian production which defers with its national cultural color. There are two shops in Yerevan selling similar products. However, the Embassy withheld more detailed information on whether expenses of the Indian companies are compensated and if they are interested in further promotion of their production at the Armenian market.
At the same time the Indian traders are not satisfied with conditions they are provided in Armenia, no matter that the embassy renders top level assistance. One of the traders told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that customs duties are too high and the sales spot is rented as well. And, still the Indian production is in demand, particularly, scarves the price for which ranges from AMD 1000 to AMD 3000, top quality ones are sold for AMD 6000; clothes made of cotton, for example, skirts may be purchased for AMD3000, etc. Silver items decorated with semiprecious stones are very popular among Armenian consumers.
According to statistical data, the turnover between Armenia and India for four months of 2011 totaled $25,94 mln. which is 37,9% higher than in similar period of 2010.
